By joining us weekly our participants will gain;
  •  An awareness of strategies for effective consultation to educators on a wide range pediatric mental health issues and diagnosis.
  • An awareness of means by which to asses and address the match between a child’s needs and the classroom character and structure.
  • An ability to identify and address a range of problematic dynamics that evolve between parents and school personnel when dealing with students with special needs.
  • An in depth awareness of models to support educators in developing greater empathy and understanding of students with special needs.
  • An awareness of a range of strategies to support schools in more effective management of students with complex emotional, neurological and behavioral needs.
  • An awareness of a range of strategies to address challenging school behaviors (ie enuresis, students  who run away from school and school refusal).
  • A basic understanding of child psychopharmocology.
  • A clear understanding of how and when to utilizes contingency based behavior management.
  • A basic understanding of Special Education Laws as they relate to mental health issues.
  • A basic understanding of Collaborative Problem Solving (Ross Greene).
  • An understanding of the role of  gentle structure and predictability in supporting emotionally reactive students managing the adaptive demands of school.
  • An ability to identify and effectively manage common ethical dilemmas encountered within school mental health practice.An understanding of the common needs of students in the Autistic Spectrum  within the public school setting.

All objectives will be measured through individually administered post-test.
